Confusion is particularly common in Latin America, between Crown Disease, a disorder, and Bud Rot, a disease complex. The symptomatology is sometimes similar, so a careful examination is needed, because their impacts differ considerably.

Crown disease, also called “young palm disease” is a reversible genetic disorder that mostly occurs at the young age. There is no pathogen involved in its appearance. The Bud Rot (BR) disease complex has destroyed tens of thousands of hectares of plantations in Latin America, which is the only continent affected.
