The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil – RSPO – is a not-for-profit organization uniting the main stakeholders in the Palm Oil industry. Its aim is to set in place specifications for sustainable palm oil production respecting the environment, biodiversity, rural communities and the fundamental rights of labourers and smallholders.

Today, 15 million tonnes of oil (CPO and KPO) are RSPO-certified for an area of 2.7 million hectares in production, i.e. more than 20% of total production and 14% of the areas in production worldwide, respectively.

PalmElit has been an affiliate member of the RSPO since 2009.

On 4 June, the day will be devoted to practical workshops on RSPO rules. On day 2, there will be a presentation of the revised Principles and Criteria, which will have to be approved by the RSPO General Assembly in November 2018, of certified palm oil market trends, and of the strategy for sustainable palm oil production by small- and medium-scale producers. Day 3 will be devoted to Biodiversity and natural resources in Oil Palm growing, along with good practices and corporate responsibility.

The RSPO conference will precede the 46th < National Congress of Oil Palm Growers organized by FEDEPALMA and CENIPALMA, which is also to be held in Cali from 6 to 8 June. Several technical-economic topics will be addressed after an initial day devoted to visiting the companies of various leading sectors in the field of precision agriculture, water management, biomass energy production, and the implementation of sustainable practices by small- and medium-scale producers.
